Three AFP Journalists Released by Gaddafi Forces in Tripoli: AFP Reports

TRIPOLI – On Wednesday early in the morning AFP journalist confirmed the release of three journalists including two AFP employees detained by the forces loyal to Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi since the weekend.

Reportedly; Emmanuel Hoog, AFP chairman, himself requested to Col. Gaddafi on Tuesday to set free their three journalists, who were captured by Libyan forces near the eastern city of Ajdabiya on Saturday.

There was no news about Clark and Roberto Schmidt since Friday evening; but Mohammed Hamed, a driver hired by both of them, told later on that they were arrested on Saturday along with Getty photographer Joe Raedle when they were heading from Tobruk towards Ajdabiya, where Col. Gaddafi forces have been fighting eastern rebels.

He further told AFP that a few dozen miles from Ajdabiya they came across a fleet of military jeeps and transport vehicles. They turned around, but were seized by the soldiers who caught up with them and arrested them even after they told them that they were ‘Journalists’.
