BEIJING, China - The People's Daily, China's most important political newspaper, on Monday criticized U.S.-led Western airstikes against Libya. The newspaper voiced the censure to add the strength in the China’s criticism against the use of military options comparing them to U.S. invasion in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The U.N. resolution authorizing international military action in Libya allows "all necessary measures" to prevent attacks on civilians. China is persistently urging other nations to look for a peaceful resolution to the clash in the Middle East between Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi and rebel forces.
The newspaper further mentioned that the United States and its allies are violating international rules and that in places like Iraq "the unspeakable sufferings of its people are a mirror and a warning."
On Sunday, the government of China "regretted" the air and naval attack began over the weekend by U.S. and European forces to enforce a U.N. no-fly zone. As a part of its enduring policy of staying away from other countries' internal affairs; China has resisted foreign interventions of any kind in the past.
