Japan Tsunami Death Toll 18 - - Video: Oil Refinery Ablazed Due to Tsunami in Japan

TOKYO – The official sources of Japan government has confirmed 18 deaths, fearing the number may rise as a result of powerful tsunami that follows the 8.9-magnitude earthquake which sent a 4-metre-high wall of water inland across the Miyagi prefecture. 

There's substantial destruction reported mentioning about 200 people have been washed away. Buildings, cars and ships were also swept by the raging waters. Several are missing on Japan's Sendai Island. 



Reportedly, Russia's Kuril Islands also received first wave of tsunami about one-meter-high.  

There are numerous fires along Japan's eastern shoreline including oil refinery, and estimated 4 million homes are deprived of power. The Prime Minister's instructed an emergency response team to undertake the disaster - with aircraft scrambled to the worst-affected area.

Communication facilities are cut-off and Tokyo's Norita International Airport has been closed. The entire Pacific region is on tsunami alert - with Hawaii braced to be hit within the next few hours.
