At Least 18 Dead in Kandahar Police Headquartes Attack,Taliban Claimed The Responsibility

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Taliban spokesperson, Yousuf Ahmadi, has claimed the responsibility of the attack on the police headquaters of Kandahar in Afghanistan which left at least 18 dead.

Reportedly, Taliban militants wearing explosive vests attacked a police headquarters in southern Afghanistan on Saturday, after an explosion and gunfire nearby.

Later on Taliban claimed responsibility, stating six of its militants captured a wedding hall on the road near the police headquarters in the strategically vital city that is also the militants' traditional stronghold. The chaotic scene saw unleashing an arsenal of car bombs, automatic rifle fire and rocket-propelled grenades from the sixth floor of the wedding hall.

Zalmai Ayubi, a spokesman for the governor of Kandahar, confirmed that shots had been fired at the police headquarters.

The afternoon incursion on the provincial police headquarters seemed to be an attempt to denigrate NATO statements that the security situation had got better since last year's invasion of U.S. and Afghan troops into Kandahar province, the Taliban's birthplace.
