Teenage Girl to Receive Compensation From Apple Korea for Damaged iPhone

SEOUL, Feb 11 -- According to the media reports on Friday referring court officials; Lee, a 14-year-old iPhones user, will be compensated by Apple Korea. The case was filed by teenager’s father, Lee Chul-ho, on her behalf; which is the Korea’s first iPhone damage case filed by users.

The case was filed to in October last year claiming repair charges, after an Apple service centre declined to fix her iPhone 3G for free despite its one-year warranty. The service centre claimed she caused the damage, citing bruising of a water sensor inside the phone, which the warranty does not cover, although she denied any responsibility.

Apple Korea had approached to resolve the case in December last year, but the plaintiffs didn’t accept their offer, saying the eventual point of the suit was aimed at demanding that Apple improve its service policy.

Apple now agreed to pay 290,000 won (US$259) to the girl in the lawsuit adjudicated by a Seoul court Thursday.
