Libyan war enters Tunisian border |
BENGHAZI, Libya - - Forces loyal to Libyan leader Col. Gaddafi battled rebels on Thursday for control of a key crossing at the Tunisian border, infuriating a fuming protest from Tunisia as fighting spilled on to its territory. This offensive strategy is part of a move to root out rebel fighters on Libya's western frontier.
Early in the day Col. Gaddafi troops marched the Dehiba-Wazin crossing on Libya's western frontier, in what appeared to be part of a broader government offensive to root out rebel outposts beyond their eastern stronghold.
Tunisia criticized Gaddafi invasions by Libyan government forces, as Libyan artillery shells also struck the Tunisian side of the crossing, and demanded that the Libyans put a stop to them.
