LUCKNOW, India – At least 12 people, including four children, were killed and 32 others injured in a road accident when a vehicle rammed into a tree in Jagdishpur area here, police said today.
Reportedly, the accident happened late on Monday in Jagdishpur town in Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar, about 125 km from here, when the goods carrier vehicle travelling with almost 50 passengers got out of control and smashed into the tree. Police said the passengers were coming back to hometown of Sultanpur district from a temple in the state’s Kaushambhi district.
Local police inspector Anil Rai told media that 6 of the victims were killed on the spot while six more died in the hospitals during treatment due to their fatal injuries sustained in the accident.
The condition of sixteen injured persons is also critical, he further added.
“The accident took place probably because the vehicle was overloaded with passengers. There were around 50 people in the vehicle,” Inspector Anil Rai concluded.
