Six School Students Crushed to Death by a Mobile Crane in Kanuma, Japan

KANUMA, Japan - - An out of control mobile crane crushed six students to death on Monday morning in Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture, police sources reported.

Reportedly, students from an elementary school were going along the road on the way to their school when the crane crossed the centre line and run over a group of children, killing five boys and a girl and left another boy critically wounded.

According to the Kanuma board of education, other children were watching the accident when the five were killed. The board dispatched counsellors to treat the children for possible psychological trauma.

The 26-year-old driver, Masato Shibata, was detained on the spot; but no alcohol was found in Shibata, the police said.
