Thirteen Sumo Wrestlers Confessed of Match Fixing Via Text Messages

Tokyo, Japan - Sumo (相撲, sumō) is a competitive full-contact sport where a wrestler (rikishi) attempts to force another wrestler out of a circular ring (dohyō) or to touch the ground with anything other than the soles of the feet.

After the confession of fixing the matches the recent sumo scandal got even wider and bigger. Fixing sumo matches could be a much worse scandal for the already troubled sport.

This is the latest advancement in the match fixing case against thirteen sumo wrestlers who are charged of fixing the matches using their mobile phones and text messages.

The scandal, the second of its kind, is a massive humiliation for Japan, which considers sumo wrestling a huge part of its culture. The sumo scandal comes only months after a gambling scandal that rocked the sport when the wrestlers were found to be betting on baseball games.
