Iceland's Grimsvotn Volcano Eruption Might Disrupt UK Flights |
REYKJAVIK, Iceland (May 23) – Iceland’s aviation authority wanted to resume the flight operation from the main airport near the capital Reykjavik later today or tonight.
On the other hand, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is expecting the interruption of United Kingdom flights due to the clouds of ash and smoke blowing sky-high from Iceland’s Grimsvotn volcano.
Sky news reported that European airlines and their travellers have been apprehensively observing the progress of the ash cloud as it heads towards Europe.
The Iceland’s Grimsvotn volcano began erupting on the weekend and forced Iceland to close its airports on Sunday. Greenland is the only other country which is affected by the clouds of ash and smoke coming out of erupting volcano that forced partial closure of air traffic over Arctic island.
Expert and concerned officials don’t think that Grimsvotn volcano will create the air travel emergency to that extent which was created by Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano eruption in April last year.
Some 10 million passengers were left stranded for days at airport lounges around the world following the eruption in April 2010.
