MEXICO CITY, Mexico – Reportedly, at least 28 were dead during a gun battle between two drug gangs on the highway in the western states of Nayarit and Michoacan (western Mexico).
The brutal fighting and crossfire forced more than 700 people to escape from nearby villages in search of shelter from stranded bullets.
When police reached the fighting scene they just found 28 men lying dead and four others injured on the road with bullet casings everywhere and 10 abandoned vehicles.
No further details were provided in the statement released late Wednesday by the attorney general's office.
