SLAVE LAKE, Alberta - Low humidity, warm temperatures and dry ground have created perfect conditions for fast-moving wildfires and Slave Lake (Alberta Town) in under the same disastrous conditions.
Thousands of Alberta Town residents were seen leaving their homes and escaping to safer places on Sunday evening as burly winds forced an out-of-control wildfire into a northern Alberta town where hundreds of buildings were destroyed, including the town hall, police station and the radio station, and many roads to safety were blocked.
The authorities of Slave Lake Town instructed about 7,000 residents to guard themselves from the wildfire by heading for parking lots, beaches or large, green open spaces.
